My skin care routine has had a complete update since my last skin care post, and my skin is looking so much better so I figured that it was about time to update you on what I’ve changed. EVERYTHING.

I changed absolutely all of the products I was using to The Body Shop’s Aloe skin care line. I don’t have every single product (though I wish I did), but I can tell you that everything I am using, I now swear by. I haven’t been as consistent with my routine as I should be so some days are better than others. If you have read My Skin Care Journey post, you will know that I have had rosacea for as long as I can remember. It has been something that has not only lowered my self-esteem but has just been down-right annoying. Everyone’s symptoms are different so while the products I will be talking about help my skin, they might not help someone else’s. I chose The Body Shop’s products because their Aloe skin care line is created for redness and sensitive skin, which is exactly what I have issues with.

Here are the steps in my routine:

1. Remove makeup.

I’ve been using The Body Shop’s Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter for the most part to take off my makeup at the end of the day if I’ve done a full face. It does an AMAZING job at removing everything. My favorite part about using the cleansing butter is that after I have rubbed it all over my face and I somewhat resemble The Joker, I find my husband to show him what my face looks like and wait for his disgusted/terrified facial expressions. To remove the cleansing butter, I just wipe it off with one of my microfiber makeup removing cloths.

On lighter days where I’ve gotten out of control with my eye makeup but not the rest of my face, I use the liquid Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover on a microfiber makeup removing cloth. I take the rest of my face makeup off with the best makeup removing cloths I’ve ever had. Check them out here!

2. Wash face.

I’ve been using The Body Shop’s Aloe Calming Cream Cleanser in order to wash my face after I’ve removed all of my makeup. I find that liquid cleansers end up drying my skin out so I chose the cream cleanser, and I’m loving it. I am already on my second bottle and I only use about a nickel sized amount. It feels so soothing on my skin and doesn’t dry it out after I rinse it off. I make sure to only rinse my face with cool water because any extreme temperatures, hot or cold, aggravate my skin and can cause a flare up, which I definitely don’t want!

PRO (which I’m not) TIP: It’s a really good practice to rinse your face off with cool water even if you don’t have sensitive skin. It shrinks your pores, it feels nice, and it’s generally better for your skin. Also, when you dry your face, be sure to pat, NEVER rub.

3. Tone.

I was never the person to believe that toner was necessary in a skin care routine, let alone work for me. I ended up doing some research on using toner and its benefits and decided to give it a shot. Girl, am I glad I did. The Body Shop’s Aloe Calming Toner is not made with alcohol so it’s gentle and non-drying, a perfect combination for my skin type. I find that not only does it make my pores small; it also picks up all of the pesky makeup that might still be on my face. All I do is put some on one of my microfiber makeup remover cloths and wipe it all over my face.

4. Moisturize.

This is the most important step in my skin care routine since my skin gets so dry. I use The Body Shop’s Aloe Soothing Day Cream in the morning after doing steps 2 and 3, and before putting my makeup on. I use the Aloe Soothing Night Cream at night, obviously. I find that the night cream is thicker than the day cream which I greatly appreciate because the last thing I want is to wake up in the morning with a dry, itchy face. I also like that the day cream is thinner because it provides enough moisture to my face without making me feeling like I have a lot on it after I put my makeup on.

About once or twice a week, I use the Aloe Soothing Rescue Cream Mask in place of the night cream. The package says that you can wipe it off after 20 minutes or just leave it on and let it absorb into the skin overnight. I prefer the later. Why would I want to wipe something off my face that is rescuing me from a bad skin day? I tend to use the rescue mask when my face is really red or bumpy and by the next morning, after sleeping in it at night, I have little to no redness and no texture.

After all of that effort, I love the way my skin feels and looks after using all of these products. My redness has not completely disappeared but its light enough that I can easily cancel most of it out with color correctors or concealer. All of the texture on my face is completely gone, and I only have dry skin when I’m lazy and don’t follow through with my routine. Even with my extremely sensitive skin, none of these products have bothered me in the least.

I truly believe that lip care should definitely be included in your skin care routine. While I’m extremely horrible at remembering to put chapstick on, when I do put it on, I’ve been using The Body Shop’s Hemp Heavy Duty Lip Care chapstick. I reach for this chapstick over my Dr. Bronner’s, which is saying something. It does a really good job at moisturizing even the driest of lips and keeping them moisturized.

Even though The Body Shop’s prices are higher than drugstore prices, they are always having sales and the products’ quality is well worth the price that they charge. They containers may seem small, but unless you are getting absolutely crazy with the products, they will last you a very long time. I purchased all of the Aloe products and the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter back in June and the only product I've had to repurchase so far is the Aloe Calming Cream Cleanser. You just have to remember that a little goes a long way with all of their products. They also have a points system where you can get a $10 gift certificate after spending $100 online (you get 1 point per $1 spent), as well as a $10 gift certificate for your birthday.
